Good hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your family. Not only does it keep everyone healthy, but it also helps to prevent the spread of germs and disease. In this guide, we look at some of the most important aspects of household hygiene and give tips on how to keep your home clean.

Vacuum properly

One of the most important aspects of household hygiene is regular vacuuming. This removes dirt, dust and other debris that could harbor bacteria and cause illness. When vacuuming, make sure you vacuum each area several times and pay particular attention to high traffic areas such as entryways and hallways. Ideally, you should have several different attachments for your vacuum cleaner so that you can get into the smallest corners with different nozzles or regularly vacuum your upholstered furniture in one go. Water vacuum cleaners have the advantage that they bind the dirt in water and do not release it into the air. They are therefore ideal for allergy sufferers or people with pets.

Clean thoroughly

Cleaning is not the same as vacuuming. Cleaning something means removing all dirt, grease and stains. This is usually done with cleaning agents, water and a little diligence. When cleaning your home, make sure you use the right products for each surface. Most cleaners contain surfactants that are harmful to the environment, so opt for ecological cleaners or mix your own. You can find dozens of instructions on the internet for making cleaners with commercially available products such as soda. When cleaning, always ensure that your clothing and hands are adequately protected and always wear standard rubber gloves. Change or wash your cleaning cloths at regular intervals, as over time they become a real germ trap.

Wash clothes regularly

As your clothes are in close contact with your body, they quickly become dirty and full of bacteria. That's why it's important to wash them regularly - at least once a week. If you wear them more often, you can of course wash them more often. When washing, always use a detergent that is suitable for the type of clothing and do not wash too hot. Modern detergents are able to dissolve dirt even at temperatures of 40 degrees.

However, you should wash cleaning cloths and towels at 60 degrees. The label on each item of laundry will tell you the correct washing temperature.

As germs and grease accumulate in the washing machine, regular cleaning of your washing machine is a must. Modern washing machines have their own drum cleaning program and cleaning agents are available from specialist retailers or most discount stores.

Wash your bedding regularly

Another important aspect of household hygiene is the regular washing of bedding. This includes sheets, pillowcases, and comforter covers. Bedding can quickly become home to dust mites, bacteria and other allergens, so it is important to wash it frequently. In winter, move your mattress out into the fresh air when it is freezing and let it air for half an hour. Mites do not like the cold and will die off. At the same time, you prevent mold from forming in the mattress.

You should also wash your comforter and pillows in the washing machine at least once a year. Most comforters and blankets can be washed in the washing machine, but check the care label to be sure!

House cleaning once a year

As a rule, you should carry out a general cleaning of your home at least once a year. This means moving all the furniture and cleaning every nook and cranny. In addition to dusting, this also includes cleaning the windows, frames and window sills as well as the skirting boards. Don't forget to clean the door handles, light switches and remote controls.

If you have carpets, you should have them professionally cleaned every year. This is the only way to completely remove dirt and bacteria. You can hire a carpet cleaner or hire a professional cleaning company to do the cleaning for you.

Use these tips to keep your home clean and tidy and free from allergens, bacteria and dirt. Household hygiene is important for your health and the health of your family. By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your home is a clean and safe environment.
